Aqua Film Festival, meetings, workshops and special events

Awaiting the details of programme, guests and competition, the festival launches the registration to a workshop on video-making by smartphone and tablet.

Special guest of the workshop is the American actress and film director Jennifer Norton


Rome – Meetings, workshops, and special events, dedicated to the theme of water and its various aspects, are among the previews in programme at the third edition of Aqua Film Festival, international short film and mini short film festival, directed and created by Eleonora Vallone, that will take place from June 7th to the 9th in Rome.

The festival programme will capture topical environmental issues, through a selection of short films and “mini” short films dedicated to the theme of water. The films presented will focus on the important relationship between human beings and the nature. “Images are more effective than words – Vallone explainsand the festival aims to raise public awareness on environmental issues, through the language of cinema, involving people in their daily life.”

Awaiting the details of the programme, guests and titles in competition, the festival launches the registration to two free workshops on the use of smartphone and tablet in cinema, as already implemented by famous international film directors, like Soderberg. The agency The Kingdom Communication is the curator of the workshop, and will accompany participants over a 3 days course, together with the special guest Jennifer Norton, American actress, acting teacher, and film director. Classes will be held by professionals in this field, Andrea Cilento, Matteo Santi, Marco Ballerini, Mara Gugel and Damiano Miotto. The first workshop (June 7th and 8th) entitled “The use of smartphone as professional tool for video shot” will last 8 hours (4 hours per day). A theoretic and practical course, teaching shooting techniques for short films, through smartphone, a common and widespread tool. The second workshop, entitled “Self trailer”, is focused on Self-Taping with smart tools, dedicated to actors and aspiring actors, to produce high quality “video-curricula” (6 hours running time). At the end of workshops, attendance certificates will be issued.

Invitations to tender are also officially open, with the registration to the official competition, divided in two sections: one for short films up to 25 minutes and one for “mini” short films up to 3 minutes, also shot by smartphones, both dedicated to the theme of water. The main theme is divided in two sub-topics, where the authors can draw their inspiration: “Water of Island” and “Water & the Environment”. Works can be of any kind (fiction, documentary, live action, cartoons, mixed-techniques etc.). Films may be registered on the website www.acquafilmfestival.org until May 5th. The international Jury, composed by experts and players from the world of cinema, will award two “Sister Water” prizes to the best short film and the best mini short film.

Among this year’s innovation, the Aqua & Students competition, created thanks to the collaboration with schools from the Elba island and the International University of Monaco, is dedicated to mini short films (up to 3 minutes) made by students from schools and universities. Mini short films may be shot with smartphones, and will have WATER, in all its forms and functions, as the main player.

The winner films, beyond receiving the official prizes indicated in the regulations and on the website, will be screened in Monaco.
